Angelina Jolie, se narodila herečce Marcheline Bertrand a herci Jonu Voightovi. Bok po boku se svým otcem si již v pěti letech zahrála v komedii režírovanou Halem Ashbym "Looking to Get Out". V jedenácti letech začala studovat herectví v divadelním institutu Lee Strasberga a v šestnácti už z Angie byla profesionální modelka v Londýně, Los Angeles a New Yorku. Mimo svět modelingu se Angelina objevila také v hudebních klipech Lenny Kravitze, Rolling Stones, Lemonheads či Meatloaf. Mimo Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute v New Yorku studovala na New York University, kde prvně hrála v divadelní produkci. Když školu dokončila, začala pracovat ve skupině UCLA School of Cinema, kde natočila svůj první studentský film pod režisérským dohledem svého bratra Jamese Havena Voighta. V roce 1993 se objevila v menší filmové roli filmu "Cyborg 2" a o dva roky později získala svou první hlavní roli, ztvárňující počítačového hackera, ve filmu Nebezpečná síť "Hackers". Tato role ji přinesla velké uznání a také lásku a manžela Jonny Lee Millera. Tisk se mohl o Angie poprat poté, co na svou svatbu přišla v černých kožených kalhotách a bílé košili, na kterou svou vlastní krví napsala jméno svého nastávajícího. Krev však lásku nezpečetila a po necelém roce se vztah rozpadl. Následovaly role ve filmech, jako "Love in all there is"(1996) nebo thriller Ruce od krve "Playing God"(1997). Další filmy již nesly i ocenění: Za roli Cornelie Wallaceové v dramatu "George Wallace" získala Zlatý Glóbus za nejlepší ženský herecký výkon a nominaci na cenu Emmy. Avšak do světa ji zatím nejvíce vyzdvihl snímek "Gia", autobiografické ztvárnění života lesbické modelky Gii Marie Carangiové, která zemře na AIDS. Za tento film získala druhý Zlatý glóbus a nominaci na Emmy. Po těchto velkých úspěších byla stále častěji k vidění na obálkách slavných časopisů a televizních talk show. Role se začaly hrnout a v roce 1996 se Angelina Jolie objevila v romantickém dramatu Podoby lásky "Playing By Heart". Příští rok dostala roli v komedii Bláznivá Runway "Pushing Tin", kde se zamilovala do Billy Bob Thorntona. V témže roce si zahrála po boku Denzela Washingtona v thrilleru Sběratel kostí "The Bone Collector", natočeném podle bestselleru spisovatele Jefferyho Deavera. Velmi významný úspěch si na konto připsala v roce 1999 za roli psychopatické Lisy ve filmu Narušení "Girl, Interrupted". Za tuto skvělou roli získala Oskara! Poté si Billyho Thorntona vzala. Láska s o dvacet let starším mužem než je ona byla známá všude svou nesmrtelností. Nové milénium přineslo Angelinu ve filmu "Gone in 60 seconds" Šedesát sekund, kde si zahrála s Nicolasem Cagem zlodějku aut. Rok 2001 byl ohromným úspěchem: nejdříve se objevila v erotickém thrilleru Sedmý hřích "Original Sin" s Antoniem Banderasem a následně jako Lara Croft, populární hrdinka počítačové hry Tomb Raider, ve filmu "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider", který ji vynesl ještě o stupínek výše. Při natáčení v Kambodži si zamilovala několikaměsíčního chlapce jménem Maddox a spolu s manželem ho adoptovali. Její láska se soustředila na chlapce a Billy Bob začal žárlit načež se jejich manželství rozpadlo a Angelina koupila dům v Londýně.
